1. A top-10 matchup in Austin went the way over the hosting Longhorns, as Texas roughed up Montana Fouts en route to a 5-3 win over Alabama. Fouts gave up five hits and five runs, including three earned runs, in the game and barely made it out of the third inning after giving up a 5-spot in the frame. Texas’ Mac Morgan and Estelle Czech combined for a 5-hitter, with Morgan giving up a three-run home run to Ashley Prange in the fifth inning as the only Bama scoring.
2. Florida State got the best of Oklahoma State in those teams’ initial matchup, with FSU coming away with a 7-5 win. After leading off the scoring with a 2nd-inning RBI single, FSU went up 4-0 with a 3-run Michaela Edenfield home run in the fourth. Oklahoma State came charging back with four runs in their own portion of the 4th inning, including a bases-loaded walk that tied the game. After OSU took a 5-4 lead, Florida State scored three runs in the 6th inning on an RBI fielder’s choice and a 2-RBI single from Kalei Harding. Kathryn Sandercock started the game in the circle for FSU and got the save, while Kelly Maxwell started for OSU and received a no-decision after throwing 5.1 innings of 3-hit, 5-run ball with seven walks and six strikeouts.
3. The first game of Oregon and Washington’s Friday evening series went the way of the Ducks, with Oregon pulling out an 8-6 win in Seattle. Oregon scored twice in the first inning, then Washington responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. The game was a back-and-forth affair before Oregon scored four unearned runs in the top of the 7th inning to take the lead for good. Stevie Hansen lasted just 1.1 innings in the circle for Oregon, giving up three hits and four runs, while Raegan Breedlove threw 4.2 innings of 4-hit ball and got the win. Ruby Meylan (7 IP, 13 hits, 8 runs/4 earned runs, 11 strikeouts) took the loss for Washington.
4. Ashley Rogers was on fire in the circle for Tennessee on Friday, dominating the Ole Miss offense and recording a no-hitter in the first conference win of the season. Two walks were all that stood between Rogers and a perfect game, as she also notched nine strikeouts in the circle. Kiki Milloy’s 3rd-inning grand slam was all the scoring that Tennessee would need, though solo home runs by Zaida Puni and Milloy added to the eventual 6-0 final score.
5. After a tumultuous ten-day period, NC State picked up an impressive win over Notre Dame on Friday, run-ruling the Fighting Irish in an 11-3 final score. After Notre Dame opened a 3-0 lead early in the affair, the Wolfpack scored eleven unanswered runs. Amanda Hasler hit a pair of home runs, including a 3-run shot in the third inning. Nadia Sykes added a 3-run double as part of a seven-run third inning.
