Sunday’s news that Texas Tech has parted ways with head coach Sami Ward leaves the Red Raiders on the hunt for a new coach for the second time in less than two calendar years.
Ward departs Lubbock with three years remaining on her contract that was signed in October 2020; she was a late hire that cycle and signed a five-year deal at the time. Ward’s contract includes a buyout that requires the school, for terminating her without cause, to pay the amount of 80% of the remaining salary for the balance of her deal and does include offset language should she get another coaching position.
A Big 12 member, an NCAA tournament participant in 2019, and currently in 5th place in the Big 12 standings in 2022 with one week remaining in the conference season, the coaching search now begins for a program that has an interesting history of coaching transactions.
