Can you talk about your involvement and experience with USA Baseball?
I have been part of the Trail Blazer Series since I was 10. USA and MLB were big in my baseball life growing up. I played Majors baseball until 14U against some of the best teams in the country. The coaches and staff had me attend a training camp for girls in Florida this last fall for baseball. Four girls from that camp and a total of 30 were selected in the USA to participate in the development program for women the following week. It was the best coaching and training I’ve ever experienced.

An added plus is there were so many D1 athletes there doing the same program; it really motivated me. I’ve always been a huge fan of Jade Gortarez. Seeing her there and being able to work out with an athlete like that was such an honor for me.

Can you talk about how you play and train for softball, baseball, basketball and cross country?
I always have a lot of confidence when I play as you have to when competing against the best. Playing with mostly boys my whole life helped as you really have to have it or you will not succeed. My dad had always told me that confidence comes from practice and preparation. I believe in that and feel it whenever it’s time to play.

For training I always am doing something, but a lot of my approach changed from my experience with Team USA. All the coaches gave me something to get better and add to my routine, but coach Tamara Holmes and coach Veronica Alvarez really inspired me to do more with weights. Since then I’ve added 15 pounds of muscle and am now loving the gym and working out with DST in Houston. It has helped me so much with all sports.

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?
I play with the Hotshots out of Houston. I was looking for a team that practiced more and really pushed its players to be better. My parents told me we were going to a practice with them and I never looked back. It was much more like what I had been used to from the baseball practices where you are constantly working. The team is one of the best groups of girls I have been around. Everyone is so talented and most importantly accountable. It has been a great experience so far.

What should we expect from your club team this summer?
You definitely can expect to see us. We are a team that will travel to play. Last summer, there was a time where we were not home for over a month. And went to so many different states. Definitely, not afraid to play the best!

Do you have a secret talent/skill?
The one thing I’m good at that most don’t know is fishing. Could go fishing almost any time. Hope to go deep sea fishing some day.

What’s your most memorable softball story?
Well, this past summer was pretty awesome traveling all over with my girls. Lots of great memories there. One thing that is funny for my parents is that growing up my baseball travel team would play against a team from Louisiana at least once a season. And each time my parents would have me take a photo with one of the moms. I never really understood why. Well, the mom of the player on the other team was Jennie Finch. It never really hit me who she was until I did my second Trail Blazer Series and she was the MLB ambassador and remembered me. Now, I always say Hello and this past summer ran into her at PGF. She is the sweetest and such a great role model.
