The title of 2022 Women’s Softball European Champions belongs to the Netherlands, as the Dutch beat Great Britain in the gold medal game on Saturday.
Great Britain earned the silver medal for the tournament, while Italy won the bronze medal after beating the Czech Republic in the third-place game.
Saturday’s final score was 7-0, with the Dutch buoyed by a 3-run third inning that included a 2-RBI single by Dinet Oosting. A 2-RBI triple by three-hole hitter Jessie Van Aalst gave the Dutch some late insurance runs and vaulted the program to the ultimate final score of 7-0.
Eva Voortman threw a complete game in the circle for the Dutch, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out eight. Georgina Corrick took the loss for Team Great Britain, giving up eleven hits and seven runs while striking out 13.
The Netherlands finished the tournament with a 9-1 record, while Great Britain ended the week 9-2. Following the proverbial medal-stand participants, the top seven in the tournament standings also included the Czech Republic (4th), Spain (5th), Israel (6th), and Greece (7th).
