The Scrap Yard Internationals 16U and 18U club teams based out of Conroe, Texas, got to go on a trip of a lifetime in August, mixing softball, socializing and sight-seeing in the ultimate experience that dozens of players and coaches will never forget.
The group traveled to Tokyo, Japan last month to play softball against the Tokyo Women’s College of Physical Education (TWCPE), watch Team USA play at the WBSC World Championships, and see the greater city of Tokyo.
At the beginning the week and a half long trip, each Scrap Yard squad played two games against TWCPE at its home field in a heat much similar to Texas.
“The athletes were greeted by an excited TWCPE team and spent the first half hour learning names, asking questions, and taking selfies, and wrapped up each day with an entertaining hackey-sack and selfie session,” explained Jade Hewitt, the Media Director for Scrap Yard Fast Pitch.
In addition to competing on the fields, the Scrap Yard International entourage visited the downtown city of Narita, traveled to the Tsukiji Fish Market, ate the local cuisine in Chiba, walked through prayer gardens and temples, spent the day at Tokyo Disney, and cheered on USA Softball during pool play competition.
Here’s a video compilation of some of the highlights of the trip and also a photo gallery of some of the sights captured during the time well spent in the Land of the Rising Sun…
