As we get ready to launch our Extra Elite 100 rankings for the 2020 class starting on Labor Day (Sept. 3), we can’t help but think of one of the top players in that class, Jayda Coleman, who will always be special for us at Extra Inning Softball as the article with video clips we posted below originally on Jan. 29, 2018 was one of the very first pieces we did on our newly launched site.
Since then, Jayda had a great sophomore season for her Texas high school and earned 1st Team Extra Inning Softball All-American honors and helped Kevin Shelton’s 18U Texas Glory team have a strong summer as well.
The Oklahoma commit is a special talent and comes from a great family on and off the softball field… here’s a look back at her from nearly seven months ago as we look forward to following two more years of her at the prep and club levels!

Considered the top prospect in the 2020 class, Jayda Coleman from The Colony (Texas) had a remarkable year in 2017 as she earned All-American and National Freshman of the Year honors and, best of all, Jayda led her Dallas-area team to a 5A State title playing for her mother, Deana.
She even scored the winning run against her school’s rival coached by her sister, Ashley!
The Texas frosh phenom also played for her father, Cedric, also a well-respected coach who assists in the Texas Glory organization and, in this Extra Inning Exclusive video shot last month at the Texas Faster2First event, Jayda even admits who’s the best coach in the family!
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing, however… in December of 216, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and here we hear about this experience and about the highs and lows of what’s been a thrilling ride for one of the nation’s premier softball players whom Glory Head Coach Kevin Shelton says… “has one of the highest softball I.Q.’s I’ve ever seen and is mentally ahead of most and as physically gifted as any.”
