What a great year it’s been for Julia Cottrill, the 2019 catcher who is committed to Florida and is considered one of the top prospects in her class and (spoiler alert!) will be ranked very highly when the Extra Elite 100 rankings are released starting Monday, October. 15.
Julia was just invited this week as one of 28 standouts in the college freshman class or as high school seniors and juniors to participate in the USA Softball Jr. National Team Trials to be held December 28-January 1, at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Florida. She has also competed for USA Softball as a member of the Jr. National Team previously and competed in the World Cup of Softball XII.
Also invited with Julia were several teammates on her Georgia Impact-Lewis 18U team which won PGF Nationals this summer including college freshman Charla Echols (Michigan State) and Skylar Wallace (Alabama) along with fellow high school senior Kelley Lynch (a pitcher currently committed to Auburn) and high school junior infielder Riley Blampied (Alabama).
Julia had an explosive week at PGF Nationals, being chosen by us as All-Tournament and on one of the bracket days of competition was our Offensive MVP as she hit a grand slam after hitting a home run in the previous day. She also had a triple in the title game win over the OC Batbusters.
And to complete the trifecta of honors, she was a 1st Team Extra Inning Softball All-American at catcher announced this summer (although her junior seasons was last fall) as she was the 6A-4 Offensive Player of the Year after batting .519 with 16 home runs and 31 walks versus just one walk as her Stillwater (Oklahoma) High team went to the state semis.
Julia is having a strong senior season too as she’s batting .542 through the first 20 games for the Pioneers with nine home runs and 19 RBI and defensively has only made two errors.
We’ve followed Julia’s growth and development for years now including her standout performance at the October 2014 OnDeck-produced West Coast National Elite Camp where shot footage of her hitting and did an interview with her… notice when she lists favorite college teams who the first one is she mentions!
And we’ve also thrown in one of her home runs at this year’s PGF Nationals, a two-run blast that was key as her team trailed 3-0 at the time and would go on to win that game and every other won to end up undefeated as the PGF Nationals champs…
