Two Mercer Bears players were seriously injured in a car accident last weekend.
A single-car, rollover accident shortly before dawn on Sunday morning injured both junior Ashlyn Donner and senior Bailey Pattison. Both players were taken to the hospital following the accident and Donner had to be airlifted from the scene of the accident, according to a local news report on the crash.
Both players reportedly sustained serious injuries from the accident, and one of the two remains hospitalized but is reportedly in stable condition. The crash occurred in Nicollet County, Minnesota.
Donner, age 20, is a Minnesota native. She began her college playing career at Chipola College and appeared in 25 games with 116 innings pitched last season, her first year at Mercer.
Pattison, age 21, is a native of Florida who has spent her entire college career as a Bear. She earned All-SoCon honors as a freshman in 2019 and did not pitch during the 2021 season.
On Wednesday evening, Mercer softball extended thoughts and prayers to both players following the accident:
We are sending healing thoughts and prayers to our fellow Bears, Ashlyn Donner and Bailey Pattison. They were involved in a serious car accident while on break earlier this week. We hope their road to recovery is as smooth as possible and look forward to their return to campus. pic.twitter.com/0iHCxXX0h1
