Clearwater, Florida is the place to be this week for what’s happening in softball as the USA Softball Jr. Women’s National Team (JWNT) continues tryouts today and will wrap-up on Tuesday.
Fittingly, the event will conclude on New Year’s Day as it will mark the beginning of a big 2019 for the those who will make the JWNT and compete at the USA Softball International Cup, then the final 17 who will compete in the and WBSC Junior Women’s World Championship in Irvine, California from August 11-17, 2019.
The selection trial list is at 42 as of today as the participating athletes are competing at the Eddie C. Moore Sports Complex.

Below is the list of those who are vying for a spot on the JWNT training team roster, but first some notes on the group overall:
* The age range for the plays goes from college freshmen (14) down to one from the high school sophomore (2021) class in Vivian Decker, a Florida commit from Lake Mary, Florida.
* The Univ. of Washington has the most players represented, either college freshman or signed/committed, with 6. Alabama has 5, Florida 4, UCLA 3 and LSU 2. There are 19 universities with one player each including the last two WCWS national champions, Florida State and Oklahoma.
* California leads with the most states represented with 11 followed by Florida with 6, Georgia with 5, Texas with 4, Arizona with 3 and Illinois, Kentucky and Washington with 2 each.
* The PGF 18U Premier National Champion Georgia Impact-Lewis program has produced an amazing eight players who are in Clearwater right now including 2019 Extra Inning Softball’s #1 ranked player in the Extra Elite 100, Kelley Lynch who has signed with Washington. The others are Skylar Wallace (Alabama freshman), Charla Echols (Michigan State freshman), Riley Blampied (Alabama verbal), Julia Cottrill (Florida commit) Cali Decker (Florida verbal), Bailey Dowling (Alabama commit) and Raigan Barrett (Washington verbal)
