Clemson’s Valerie Cagle has been named the Extra Inning Softball Player of the Week for her efforts during Week 7 of the Division 1 softball season.
Cagle contributed to her team both at the plate and in the circle, helping guide the Tigers to a three-game series sweep over Georgia Tech.
At the plate, Cagle was 4-7, good enough for a .571 batting average, and collected three home runs and five RBIs. She notched a 0.77 ERA in the circle, allowing one earned run in nine innings of work across two games.
In game one of the series against the Yellow Jackets, Cagle was a perfect 2-2 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs to her credit. In the same game, she threw four innings in the circle, allowing two hits and one run while striking out nine.
After going 1-3 at the plate with a solo home run in game two of the series, Cagle returned to double-duty in the series finale.
In game three of the series, Cagle was 1-2 at the plate, hitting her third home run of the weekend and notching two RBIs. She also earned her third walk of the weekend and was hit by a pitch. In the circle, Cagle threw five innings of one-hit, shutout ball, with four strikeouts to her credit.
