One of the most impressive pitchers we’ve seen this summer is 2021 hurler Abby Dunning who plays for Gerry Quinn’s Illinois Chill 18U team.
Abby isn’t the biggest pitcher you’ll find in any tournament she’s in as she measures 5-foot-4, but “she has worked extremely hard and has become one of the more dominant pitchers in the 2021 class,” according to Coach Quinn. “We clocked her as fast as 69 mph (this summer) and she is consistently 66-67.”
When she committed to Boston College last October, Quinn told us: “Abby also mixes a screw, curve, rise and change to generate large strikeout numbers. She had an excellent summer leading the Chill 16U team to PGF Nationals, compiling a 1.07 ERA in 115 innings with 159 K’s and just one run given up, along with no triples and nine doubles.”

The incoming senior at Chicago Marist in Illinois originally committed to Dartmouth but decommitted last June before going on a terror in the summer club season of 2019 when she pitched all her Chill team’s bracket play games at PGF, including a nail bitter that ended in an extra inning loss to the SoCal Choppers – Fausett 16U team 1-0 (0.00 ERA).
Last September, on the first day colleges could call, Abby received calls from a number of schools in the Big Ten, ACC and many more… 24 in total! After taking a number of official and unofficial visits last fall, she verbally committed to Boston College and new coach, Amy Kvilhaug.
