On Thursday morning, the Big Ten officially announced what had been rumored for weeks – a new television rights deal that will make the league several billion dollars in revenue.

Yes, that says billion. Your eyes do not deceive you.

The new deal includes agreements with FOX, CBS, and NBC, but does not include ESPN. It’s primarily focused on football and both men’s and women’s basketball, including a streaming deal for a certain number of women’s basketball games annually.

While Olympic sport athletes were mentioned – albeit briefly – in the conference’s press release, one question is fair: How will this new deal affect softball – or will it at all?
