Extra Inning Softball Welcomes Laina Holmgren: Laina Holmgren

Extra Inning Softball welcomes Laina Holmgren to the team! Holmgren has joined EIS as our new Rankings and Media Coordinator, a role that will allow her to help guide the prestigious rankings and serve the growing community of athletes, coaches, and families who turn to EIS for recognition, resources, and connection.

Holmgren’s addition strengthens our ability to meet the increasing demand for credible rankings and quality coverage while continuing to celebrate the people who make softball special.

The success of Extra Inning Softball has fueled rapid growth, particularly in the popularity and credibility of our rankings, which continue to set the standard across the sport. With more players and teams seeking evaluation and recognition than ever before, the need to expand our staff became clear.

Holmgren’s arrival ensures that EIS can continue to meet the demand with excellence and integrity. She will serve as a key liaison with our Rankings Committee, helping maintain communication, organization, and a smooth workflow throughout each cycle of evaluations and releases.

EXTRA INNING SOFTBALL

Holmgren carries with her a deep passion for the people of softball—the teammates, coaches, mentors, and families who build the culture of the game.

Holmgren is eager to bring that perspective to EIS and help ensure that the rankings and media content we produce continue to reflect not only performance on the field, but also the character, effort, and community that make softball special.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Extra Inning Softball because they’re not only passionate about the sport, but more so about the incredible PEOPLE who play it, coach it, promote it, and celebrate it!” Holmgren said.

A Lifelong Connection to the Game

Holmgren grew up surrounded by the game in Southern California, where softball was woven into everyday life. From a young age, she was on the sidelines of her cousins’ travel ball games and national championships, inspired by athletes who competed at the highest level.

“I was just a kid watching it all, thinking there was nothing cooler in the world than playing softball,” Holmgren shared.

Holmgren’s love for the game carried her into competitive travel ball in both Oregon and California, where she thrived on the diamond.

Commitment to Softball

Holmgren’s playing career took her to Boise State University (Boise, ID), where she began her collegiate softball journey. She later transferred and completed her career at Charleston Southern University (Charleston, SC). Her time as a student-athlete gave her firsthand experience with the discipline, sacrifice, and joy that college softball demands.

Coaching Across the Country

After finishing her playing career, Holmgren transitioned into coaching, dedicating nearly a decade to shaping the next generation of players. She has coached at:

  • George Washington University (2018–’21) – Washington, D.C.

  • University of Louisiana at Monroe (2021–’23) – Monroe, LA

  • College of Charleston (2023–’25) – Charleston, SC

At each stop, Holmgren became known for her player-first approach and passion for building lasting relationships with athletes. Laina shared:

“My favorite part about coaching was always the girls I worked with and the people I got to surround myself with who shared the love of the game. So it’s amazing to be on a team that celebrates the people behind the sport we all love!”

Family and Support System

Off the field, Laina Holmgren is grounded by the love and support of her family. Her parents, Susan and Roger Holmgren, along with her brother Conor, have been a steady source of encouragement throughout her journey in softball and beyond.

In recent years, her family has drawn even closer together, creating a new chapter of life rooted in connection and resilience.

Laina’s brother Conor moved to Charleston last year, a transition that allowed the siblings to finally live near one another as adults.

“Having Conor here has been awesome because we haven’t lived near each other in our adulthood,”

Laina shared. Her mom Susan also relocated to Charleston from Oregon this past June, almost a year after her father Roger’s passing.

“I’m excited for this new start for her and for her to be close to my brother and me again,” Laina added.

Adding to that foundation, Laina is engaged to her fiancé, Seth Frasier, whose partnership and support continue to inspire her as she takes on new challenges both personally and professionally.

Together, they represent the team behind the scenes that has helped shape Laina into the determined, passionate leader she is today.

The Perfect Fit

Holmgren believes the growth of softball in recent years has been extraordinary, and she sees Extra Inning Softball as a vital part of that momentum.

“Softball has evolved in so many ways, but most importantly it has grown to levels I’d never dreamt of,” Holmgren said. Extra Inning Softball provides a central hub for girls, families, coaches, and fans to feel connected with a community which (thankfully) can feel massive at times!

No matter how old you are, where you play, if you’re just starting out, or have been playing your whole life, there’s something for you at Extra Inning Softball.”

As Rankings and Media Coordinator, Holmgren will play a key role in overseeing rankings and helping continue EIS’s mission of celebrating athletes and the softball community.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Laina to Extra Inning Softball,” Holland said. “She embodies exactly what we look for—determination, passion, and a deep understanding of the game.

Laina is a perfect fit for our team culture, and her experience as both a player and coach will be invaluable as we continue to grow. While we plan to expand again in the months ahead, today we’re celebrating the impact she brings to our team and to the entire softball community.”
