Another week of the regular season is almost completely in the books, with a single game between Auburn and Kentucky the headlining act for Monday’s small slate of action.
Conference series’ in both the Power Five and mid-major ranks started on Thursday, in order to end before the Easter holiday, but the top-level action was still out in full force.
Let’s take a look at some of the week’s big winners.
*****
Alabama Crimson Tide
The Crimson Tide pulled off an impressive series sweep over Florida for the first time in more than a decade, recording a trio of wins over the two-time national champion Gators.
Now riding a seven-game winning streak, the Tide outscored the Gators 12-2, allowing just a single run in each of the first two games of the series and posting a shutout in the series finale. With their second consecutive series sweep over a conference opponent ranked nationally in the top 20, the Tide went into Gainesville and earned a trio of victories; the Tide started three different pitchers, and saw each add to their season’s win total.
Freshman ace Montana Fouts earned the win in the series opener on a two-hit, five-strikeout performance, while former Hofstra transfer Sarah Cornell also allowed a pair of hits while striking out nine in game two of the series and junior Krystal Goodman moved to 9-0 on the year with the victory in the series finale.
Oklahoma Sooners
In front of a sold-out crowd, the Sooners took to Austin, Texas for what was advertised as the best Red River Rivalry matchup in years.
The upstart Longhorns hosted the Sooners, but it was the team in crimson that landed on the victorious side, sweeping through the series to move to 12-0 in conference play.
