Extra Elite 100 Rankings FAQ … We Answer Your Questions!

At Extra Inning Softball, we cover all areas of fastpitch softball—from travel ball and high school up through college, pros, and international play.

One of the most popular features on our site is honoring hard-working athletes in various graduation classes via our Extra Elite 100 Player Rankings.

We receive inquiries every day on how the process works and have answered the most frequently asked questions below…

How are the Extra Elite 100, Position and other rankings compiled by Extra Inning Softball?

We evaluate players as a staff-in-person at events and also solicit input from:

  • Former college coaches
  • Collegiate players
  • High school coaches
  • Professional trainer
  • Performance coaches
  • UIC’s
  • Media outlets
  • Tournament director
  • Club coaches.

We also take into consideration other information including, H2H, Strength of Schedule, overall record, stats, honors and accomplishments—both team and individual—at high-level events as well as other sports played, testing analytics, academics, etc.

What player ages or classes do you rank?

Players in 8th -12th grade are ranked individually both regionally and nationally.  We are currently discussing ways in which we can highlight 7th grade players. To provide your input please do so by emailing us at: [email protected]

How important are stats when it comes to a player’s ranking?

Player rankings are not just about stats. Numbers reflect positive results and accomplishments but we also weigh other factors such as level of competition, positions and what they entail, age division and year (i.e., is the team first or second year in its age division, such as 12U, 14U, etc.) and many other factors.

Who can, or should, nominate a player?

Club, High School, Pitching coach, Hitting coaches and college coaches/scouts are the primary outside sources for nominations. Players and families are welcome to submit information that will be stored for bio compilations and potential stories.

College coaches are not allowed to comment publicly on prospective student-athletes until after they sign with a university/college.
