When 2024 outfielder Brooklin Lippert first saw this outstanding photo in her local newspaper of her diving catch, she was hoping no one else would.
“At first I was like, ‘I hope nobody sees this.’ I didn’t know that’s how my face looked when I caught it!”
However, she soon realized what everyone else thought: this is a great pic of a very athletic play.
“Then I realized,” she conceded, “that it was actually really cool how they got me in mid-air fully laid out and that I was in the newspaper. “
The photo was taken by Brett Fowler of The Walton Tribune in Walton County, Georgia during an August 27, 2020 high school regional doubleheader matching Brooklin’s Loganville Lady Devils against the Greenbrier Wolfs.
The outstanding catch was made in the top of the 6th inning in which Loganville would lose 4-3 but come back to take the second game 10-2.

“When the ball was first hit, I knew that it was coming to the right center gap,” recalls Brooklin, who during the summer plays for the Mojo-Lunsford club team out of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
“I just didn’t realize how shallow it was going to be. I knew we needed to get an out so the ball had to be caught.”
“I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get to the ball fast enough but before I knew it I was already mid-air about to land on the ground with the ball in my glove.”
If you have a great shot and would like to submit for Photo of the Week consideration, email to Brentt.Eads@ExtraInningSoftball.com and give as much detail about the pic as possible: who’s in it, where was it taken, was the going on in the photo, etc.!
