Event News: Lone Star Summer Softball Collegiate League Announced for Summer

Coach Natalie Winchester of Arlington Baptist has created a summer league for this Summer.

Natalie Winchester, a current assistant coach at Arlington Baptist University, has organized a summer league that will from June 7, 2023 to the end of July.

According to Coach Winchester, the league will give committed and uncommitted newly graduated high school seniors through newly graduated college seniors the opportunity to play a 20-game minimum season.

“My goal is six teams with 15 girls on each roster,” saves Winchester, who just a year ago was player for Arlington Baptist, “with a mid-season all-star game and awards, single elimination postseason, with championship awards.”

The young coach, who is calling her venture the Lone Star Summer Softball Collegiate League, is targeting girls that live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area, primarily because the athletes will be responsible for housing.

Adds Winchester:

“Hopefully, in the future, we can find housing for those who are out of state and the league is open to girls who are from out of state, but this time they will have to find their own living arrangements.”

The cost of the league will be $600 which will cover the Lone Star Summer League jersey, field payments, umpires, mid-season, field supplies and post-season awards as well as secondary insurance for the athletes.

The Lone Star Summer Softball Collegiate League Games will be held Monday through Thursday between 12 pm and 5 pm.

“This gives girls the chance to work, spend time with friends and family, and enjoy their summer vacation while still getting the necessary reps to stay at peak performance,” the League head explained.

“These game times will also give our coaches the time to continue to recruit over the weekends for their college teams, and coach their travel teams at night and during the weekends.

The Lone Star League has also hired Coach Robert Ives to coach in the league and he brings his 20 years-plus of coaching experience to the new venture. He is currently a volunteer coach at the University of Dallas.

“Coach Ives and I share the same passion for the game,” continues Winchester, “and I am excited to work with him throughout the summer.”

For his part Coach Ives, says the players will walk away with a lot of benefits.

“This league is a chance to improve your game, focus on what your vision is, and have fun,” concludes Coach Robert Ives.
