After a stellar performance in Colorado where she batted .455, infielder Addison Lund was looking forward to playing in Triple Crown Nationals in Georgia this week, until a house fire last Thursday forced the 2024 grad and her family out of their home indefinitely.
Their house in Appleton, Wisc. suffered $175,000 worth of damage and, as was noted in a GoFundMe started for the family:
“… the house has been declared uninhabitable for now. While they do not know yet if anything can be salvaged, they have been told that they should expect to be without a home for at least a year. Please help the Lund family and their pets (Hemi, Pipper, and Coco) get back on their feet. Any help is much appreciated.”
Both parents, Eric and Kelly work from home and not only has their home been impacted, but so too is their ability to earn an income and support their family.
WBAY News out of Green Bay, Wisc., produced the following segment on the devastating fire:
Addison Lund is an incoming senior at Menasha High in Appleton, Wisc., and member of the Carolina Elite 16U travel team. She was ranked as a Top 30 prospect in the 2024 Extra Elite 100 released last August and committed earlier this year to the University of Memphis.
She told Extra Inning Softball over thes weekend that the family’s lives have been greatly impacted by the fire, but they are grateful that everyone came out of it safely.
“It’s been hard for me and my family,” the standout player said, “and we barely have the clothes on our back and the stuff we do have is infested with a very bad smoke smell.”
“We are lucky that everyone in the family is okay as well as the pets,” Addison continued. “Fortunately, our possessions can be replaced and our home rebuilt, but we will be out of our home for about a year my parents have been told. Our family is just starting a long process of rebuilding our lives.”
Addison’s father, Eric, explains that if there is one bright spot, it’s that the family was able to make good on their trip to Triple Crown Nationals starting today in Georgia.
“With it all happening we were not going to be able to go to TC nationals with her Carolina Elite team,” the father of two explains, “but with all the waiting for inspectors and adjuster and all we decided to take Addie down to Atlanta so she could be in her happy place with her teammates playing softball.”
Addison agrees that getting back on the fields has been a welcome respite.
“With softball these next few weeks, it will be a challenge,” the athlete adds, “but it will give me a needed break from all of this stress. I have some great teammates and coaches and have had a lot of players and coaches from around the country touch base with me and my dad checking in on our family after word got out.”
