Select 30: Day 1 in Viera, Florida:
Today was the first day of Select 30 at the USSSA Space Coast Complex, the home of USSSA Pride Softball Team. I was a little nervous at first, but after meeting up with my teammates and understanding the routine, I calmed down and my nerves got better.
After check-in, Lauren Chamberlain gave a speech about the experience we are going to have at Select 30, going out 100 percent with everything you do, and setting goals for yourself to get better. She was very motivating and energetic!
Awaiting us today was the testing for our athletic ability measuring our strengths and weaknesses with things like overhand throwing and bat speed.
Not just testing was upon us today– so was the rain!
Unfortunately, we did not get to test today nor doing anything beyond warm-ups, so instead we did team bonding.
We spent time getting to know the people we will be playing with, as well as our coach who will be teaching us about the game and making us better. My group is fun and open with each other.
My coach is Jessie Warren and I’m excited to be learning from her! Even without doing any physical softball drills and tests today, I was still able to learn a lot. One thing I learned is that warming up correctly every time you do any sports training or practice will decrease your risk of getting injured. Another thing I learned is that having goals will make you more successful with progressing your abilities.
