Jacquie Joseph Departing as Michigan State Head Coach

Michigan State head coach Jacquie Joseph is retiring from her role, the school announced on Thursday.

Joseph took the reins of the Spartan softball program prior to the 1994 season and has been at the program’s helm ever since. She is the winningest coach in program history and will remain with Spartan athletics, accepting a role in sports administration.

The 2022 season marked Joseph’s 29th leading the Michigan State program and saw the Spartans post a 24-28 overall record, with a 4-16 mark in Big Ten conference play. The Big Ten tournament hosts this season, the Spartans were eliminated from the Big Ten tournament in a 7-1 loss to Maryland on Wednesday.

During her career as MSU head coach, Joseph collected an overall record of 753-809-1 in her near-three decades in East Lansing. She led the Spartans to the NCAA tournament four times during her tenure, most recently in back-to-back seasons in 2003 and 2004.

Prior to taking the helm at Michigan State, Joseph was the head coach at Bowling Green for five seasons from 1989-93. Her career record stands at 889-942-1.
