Last Call! Extra Inning Softball 2018 High School All-American Lists Start Next Monday!

Montana Fouts, a multi-year Gatorade Player of the Year from Kentucky, is a good bet to make the list!

Time is running out to submit recommendations for players to be considered for the Extra Inning Softball High School All-American teams!

Starting next Monday, we’ll begin recognizing the accomplishments of players who excelled at the high school level.

To submit a player for consideration, please email [email protected]… To ensure possible mention of your favorite athlete, the deadline is this Friday (June 22) at noon EST.

Be sure to send in a head shot and/or an action shot if available.

EXTRA INNNG SOFTBALL ALL-AMERICAN TIMELINE

  • Monday, June 25 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Pitchers)
  • Tuesday, June 26 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Catchers)
  • Wednesday, June 27 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Infielders)
  • Thursday, June 28 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Outfielders)
  • Friday, June 29 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Multi-Purpose)
  • Monday, July 2 – Extra Inning Softball 2nd Team All-Americans
  • Tuesday, July 3 – Extra Inning Softball High School Player of the Year
  • Wednesday, July 4 – Extra Inning Softball High School Coach of the Year

Those chosen will be selected based on the following factors:

  • accomplishments, stats and honors
  • importance in the success of the team
  • on-field abilities, skills & talent
  • off-the-field resume, i.e. academic success, community involvement, etc.

Below is an example (you don’t have to follow exactly… you’ll get the jest of it!) of one player who WAS an All-American!

Significant off-the-field accomplishments: academics, other sports, extra-curricular activities, etc.
  • Completed 230 community service hours during high school. The bulk of these hours included volunteering at several churches in the community.  She was a camp counselor over the summer and she volunteered for various church events during her four years in high school including parish picnics, women’s club events and parish dinners. She also completed service hours for other charitable organizations including Amor en Accion and Invisible Children.
  • Attended a 5-day mission trip to Costa Rica. She read to and played with children and painted a local school.
  • Graduated with a 4.0 weighted GPA and a 3.7 unweighted GPA from St. Thomas Aquinas H.S.
  • Received First Honors and Principal’s Honors every quarter in high school

This player had an amazing senior year: All-American, Gatorade State Player of the Year and she won a second straight Florida state title.

She has led her high school team to back-to-back 7A state championships. She also displays leadership in the community.  She has been a camp counselor for two summers at a church vacation bible school as well as attended a 10-day mission trip to Costa Rica.
    Team Success (due to player’s impact)
  • In her two years at St. Thomas Aquinas H.S., she led the team to a record of 31-6 and back-to-back FHSAA State 7A Championships.
  • Finishing the 2013 season and into the 2014 season, she led the team to 22 consecutive wins.
  • After suffering a concussion in April 2013, she came back to pitch 3 scoreless games in the Regional and the State finals in 2013. Again in 2014, in the 7 play-off games she pitched, she gave up no earned runs (1 unearned run in the Regional semi-final game).
  • Her catcher, Gwen Svekis, said it best after the 1-0 win over Harmony in the 2014 state championship game, “I know she said once we got that run (in the first inning) she didn’t feel like it was over, but I know how she works and I knew it was over at that point. She is very good under pressure, probably the best pitcher I’ve ever seen. Once we got that run, in my head, it was over.”
  • Mark Schusterman, Head Coach of Gulliver Prep, said, “Meghan King is the main reason St. Thomas Aquinas beat Harmony and won the state championship. The important thing to remember is that St. Thomas played the toughest competition around and Meghan kept them in every game.”
