Nicole Dickson has been named the new head coach at New Mexico.

Dickson spent the last six years as the head coach at Stephen F. Austin, leading the Ladyjacks to a 169-123 overall record as well as regular-season conference and divisional championships in both the Southland and the WAC.

In addition to on-field results, Dickson guided the SFA program through the transition from the Southland into the WAC; in their first season in a new conference, the Ladyjacks won the WAC’s Southwest Division championship and finished second in the conference tournament.

Last season, in 2021, Dickson was named the Southland Conference’s Coach of the Year.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join UNM Athletics. I really value, and aligned with, the core values and vision for the program,” Dickson said in a school statement. “Both Eddie Nuñez and Deputy A.D. for External Affairs Dave Williams are all in, want to see softball be successful and are willing to support the student-athletes to have a quality experience. I loved the community and coaches and the beautiful campus sells itself. I am excited to work with the student-athletes and develop a competitive, hard-working culture focused on getting better every day. The goal is to compete for championships and represent the campus and community positively on and off the field.”

Prior to her tenure at SFA, Dickson was the head coach at Tyler Junior College and Paris Junior College.
