Oregon pitcher Brooke Yanez will miss the remainder of the 2022 season, she announced on social media on Thursday evening.
Yanez has not played for the Ducks this year, though she has traveled with and stayed in the dugout with the team during the Ducks’ non-conference portion of the season.
“I have been working extremely hard to better my physical health to get back with [the team] on the field,” Yanez wrote on social media on Thursday. “An injury is not just a process of recovery, it’s a process of discovery. I have had to make the tough decision to take a different path this year. Due to injury, I will not be playing the 2022 season. I believe everything happens for a reason, and to have one more year with this group makes this decision less difficult.”
As she indicated in her announcement, Yanez is expected to return to the Ducks’ roster in 2023. Yanez has one season of eligibility remaining following the NCAA’s extended eligibility waiver after the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
An All-American in 2021, Yanez posted a 22-6 overall record last season with a 2.11 ERA and 268 strikeouts; the latter number ranked second in the PAC-12. She held opponents to a .185 batting average on the year and was a first-team All-PAC 12 selection.
