Oregon catcher Vallery Wong and South Florida pitcher Georgina Corrick have been named the Extra Inning Softball Co-Players of the Week for their accomplishments during Week 4 of the college softball season.
Wong enjoyed a terrific week at the plate for Oregon during the Ducks’ trip to the East coast. Starting behind the plate for the Ducks due to an injury to the usual starting catcher, Wong made the most of her opportunity. She batted .529 in five games, hitting five home runs and driving in nine runs.
In the weekend opener, a Thursday night game against UNC Greensboro, Wong’s 8th-inning home run broke a 3-3 tie in extra innings. That was her first home run since February 2020, her freshman season, and only the second home run of her college career. Across her team’s five games, Wong recorded at least one hit and one RBI in each game and hit a home run in four consecutive games to open the weekend.
Corrick was dominant in the circle for the Bulls in Week 4, In a midweek outing against Florida Gulf Coast, Corrick threw all eleven innings for her team, collecting a program-record nineteen strikeouts and allowing just three hits and no runs.
Appearing in five games during a weekend tournament, Corrick continued her torrid, dominant pace, posting a 4-0 record with one save. She pitched a total of 21.1 innings in those five games, allowing just five hits and no free passes. Corrick struck out 29 batters in the five games, including matching 8-strikeout performances against Illinois-Chicago and Florida A&M. With her week’s efforts, Corrick moved her season’s ERA to 0.08.
