Former Arizona player Stacy Redondo-Santa Cruz passed away on Monday following a stroke.
She was 52.
Part of the 1991 and 1993 National Championship-winning teams, Redondo-Santa Cruz played nearly every game for the Wildcats in the run to that 1991 title. An infielder and outfielder, she scored nineteen runs and stole six bases without being caught once during the ’91 campaign.
In 1993, she appeared in every game for the Cats and scored 25 runs, hit six doubles, and notched 18 RBIs.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tucson native Stacy Redondo,” Arizona Softball tweeted on Tuesday. “Her impact on our program and the local softball community will never be forgotten. We send our thoughts and our love to her family.”
Following her time at UA, Redondo-Santa Cruz became an educator and spent many years in that arena in Tucson. She spent several years teaching elementary school and, in 2021, was awarded the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard Award for her work at Roskruge Bilingual Magnet School, where she taught third grade.
Redondo-Santa Cruz is survived by three children and a large extended family.
