Auburn head coach Mickey Dean has signed a contract extension, Extra Inning Softball confirmed on Saturday.
Dean’s new contract took shape “several weeks ago,” per sources, and extends his current deal that was set to expire this summer. The deal is for four additional years and will stretch through the 2026 season. Auburn Undercover first reported the news of Dean’s extension on Friday.
Now in his fifth season leading the Auburn program, Dean’s Tigers have enjoyed their most impressive season of his tenure in 2022. After collecting 123 wins in his first four years on the Plains, Auburn boasts a 32-9 overall record this season and are 7-8 in conference play.
The Tigers’ pitching staff has combined for a 2.59 ERA as a unit, including a 1.52 individual mark from Maddie Penta, who has emerged as the staff ace. Along with fellow standout hurler Shelby Lowe, the pair have combined to throw more than 80% of their team’s innings this year.
One of three active head coaches to lead three different Division I programs to the NCAA tournament, Dean first led Radford and James Madison to the postseason before guiding Auburn there in each of his three seasons at the helm when the tournament was held (with the exception of the abbreviated 2020 season).
