Beth Torina Wins #600: Five Fast Facts

LSU head coach Beth Torina earned her 600th career win in a 9-1 triumph over South Carolina on Saturday evening.

As the Tigers’ leader celebrates the milestone victory, here are Five Fast Facts about her career.

1. She is in her 12th season as LSU’s head coach.

Torina took over the LSU program prior to the 2012 season and has led the squad ever since. She is currently the 6th-longest-tenured coach in the SEC.

2. She has led the Tigers to four Women’s College World Series appearances.

In her first season at LSU in 2012, Torina guided the Tigers to the  Women’s College World Series. The Tigers have returned to Oklahoma City three times since then, going back in consecutive years from 2015-17.

3. LSU is just her second head coaching position.

After serving as an assistant coach at Houston and Stetson, Torina took over the Florida International program as a first-time head coach. She amassed 129 wins in four seasons in Miami, leading the Panthers to their first-ever NCAA tournament win in 2010 and earning a pair of Coach of the Year awards.

4. Her coaching staff is the second-longest-tenured unit in the SEC.

Torina’s coaching staff has been together since she arrived in Baton Rouge; the assistant coaches that she hired when she arrived are still her assistants today. The group is the second-longest-tenured full staff in the conference and one of the top five longest-tenured staffs in the country.

5. She played college softball at Florida.

A 2000 graduate of Florida, Torina spent her playing career with the Gators and was part of the 1998 Gators’ squad that won an SEC regular-season title. She earned 60 career wins during her time in Gainesville.
