Beginning with the 2025 college softball season, the Big West Conference will host a conference tournament.
Officially ratified by the Big West Board of Directors earlier this month, the move makes the conference the 32nd and final league to implement a conference softball tournament. The Big West has never sponsored a conference softball tournament in the league’s history.
In addition to softball, postseason tournaments were also added for women’s volleyball and baseball; the move means all 19 sports sponsored by the conference will now play a conference tournament. The Big West volleyball tournament will begin in 2023, while baseball will begin alongside softball in 2025.
According to a conference release, the Big West softball tournament will include six teams and will be a double-elimination affair. Ten Big West programs currently sponsor a softball program, with UC Irvine as the sole exception.
The location of the inaugural conference softball tournament will be announced at a later date.
