By the Numbers: Wichita State Standout Addison Barnard’s Stardom

Wichita State sophomore Addison Barnard has operated at a torrid pace since she first put on a Shocker uniform. The hard-hitting outfielder has turned heads and raised eyebrows as she hits home runs left and right, steals bases on a constant basis, and generally terrorizes opposing pitching.

Barnard’s dominance at the plate and on the offensive side of the ball as a whole seems catchy; on Friday, the Shockers set a new NCAA record with SEVEN home runs in the same INNING and finished off a 24-1, run-rule-shortened win. Barnard hit three home runs and recorded seven RBIs in that game.

Still in just her second season as a college softball player, Barnard’s stat lines this season and in her career are nearly video game-like. By the numbers, some of the highlights and most impressive statistics from the Shockers slugger’s hot start to her career:

67

Wichita State’s single-season RBI record entering the 2022 season. Who set that mark? That would be Barnard, as a freshman, in 2021. She has already eclipsed that number, with several games left in the regular season and postseason, by notching 74 RBIs to this point following Friday’s performance.

51

Barnard’s career home run total through 94 games. That puts her on a quicker power-hitting pace than current home run queen Jocelyn Alo; Alo currently boasts 110 home runs in 249 career games.

42

Inexplicably, the miniscule number of times that Barnard has been walked in her career. Opposing pitchers have not yet begun to pitch around her with any regularity – and, based on some other numbers, they’re paying for it.

9

The number of multi-home run games thus-far in Barnard’s career. Seven of those nine games have come this season – six have come in the month of April alone.

How many Wichita State softball players prior to Barnard had ever recorded a 20-20 season. This year, Barnard became the first-ever Shocker softballer to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in the same season. She currently is one home run and five stolen bases away from being the first 30-30 player in program history.
