Pitcher Carley Hoover was named the Japan Diamond Softball League’s Player of the Year.
During the 2022 season, Hoover led the Japanese league with 18 wins while accumulating 198 strikeouts in 152 innings of work. She also posted a 1.66 ERA during the year.
Hoover plays for the Denso Bright Pegasus team in the JD League and was the sole non-Japanese player on the team’s roster this season. Two additional members of the team – Hitomi Kawabata and the retiring Eri Yamada – represented Japan in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The JD League is in its first year of existence in its current form, after replacing the previous Japan Softball League as part of a rebranding and reorganization effort in the spring of 2022.
Now in her fourth year playing professionally in Japan, Hoover has also suited up for Team USA and previously played professionally in the US.
During her college career, Hoover was a two-time All-American at LSU. She currently ranks in the top five in LSU program history with 71 wins, 754 strikeouts, a .195 opponent’s batting average, 66 complete games, and 10 career saves.
