Celebrating National Homemade Bread Day: A Home Run Recipe for Softball Enthusiasts

Believe it or not, there IS a connection between homemade bread and softball!

As we wind down another exciting season of fastpitch softball and head quickly towards the end-of-year holidays, it’s important to take a moment to celebrate the little things that bring joy to our lives. One such occasion is National Homemade Bread Day, observed on November 17 each year.

While this might seem like an unusual topic for a sports media company, we believe that the love of the game extends beyond the field so let’s explore the connection between homemade bread and softball as well as a delicious recipe to make your taste buds cheer!

And with Thanksgiving in less than a week, here’s a sure-to-be-loved recipe to make your gathering family and friends think you’re a culinary genius…

The Softball Connection

Teamwork

Just like a softball team, working together to achieve victory, making homemade bread requires teamwork. From kneading the dough to letting it rise, every step in the process contributes to the final product. Similarly, softball players rely on each other’s skills and cooperation to achieve success on the field.

Patience and Practice

Softball players understand the importance of practice and patience. Making bread requires time, attention, and a dash of patience. Waiting for the dough to rise mirrors the anticipation felt before a big game, knowing that the effort invested will result in something truly rewarding!

Comfort and Nourishment

Practices and games can be physically demanding, and players need proper nutrition to perform at their best. Homemade bread offers comfort, and nourishment, providing the energy needed to fuel athletes during intense training sessions, and competitive matches. It’s a wholesome treat that can be enjoyed by players and fans alike.

  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about five minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
  2. Add salt and flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately one hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°. Grease a round baking dish.

  8. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough.
