The Terrific Ten has you covered on all the best highlights from all the action across college softball on Wednesday!

*****

1. Georgia walks off Clemson and Cagle

The Georgia/Clemson softball rivalry has been a good one even in its infancy stages. Beating Georgia was Clemson’s first major home victory ever in 2020 and Wednesday night provided a quality Chapter 2 in the budding rivalry. Madison Kerpics went the distance for the Bulldogs, throwing seven full innings and giving up two runs, while Clemson ace Valerie Cagle also threw the complete game for her squad. Between the pair, they collected fifteen strikeouts in the game and gave up just five runs in total.

After being down much of the game, Georgia tied things up in the sixth inning on an error and a wild pitch before Savana Sikes poked a ball straight down the left field line for the walk-off, game-winning single. The victory moved Georgia to 27-4 on the year.

2. Mia Davidson and another home run record

On the surface, it didn’t seem like there was anything special about Mia Davidson’s home run on Wednesday night. It was one of many longballs hit in the Bulldogs’ run-rule victory over Memphis, but Davidson’s dinger had a little something extra in its meaning.

The 81st career home run for Davidson, she officially set a new record for diamond sports hitters in the SEC. To boil it down, she’s now hit more home runs than any player to ever play softball or baseball in the SEC. Former LSU baseball player Eddie Furniss previously held the record across the diamond sports, but Davidson has now passed him and holds possession of first place in that category.

She already set the SEC softball home run mark earlier this season.

3. Vierstra stifles Michigan in Miami upset win

Miami ace Courtney Vierstra reminded the world just how good she can be on Wednesday afternoon, dominating the Michigan offense and outlasting a lengthy weather delay to turn in a complete game outing and beat the hosting Wolverines in Ann Arbor. The victory was just win #3 of the year for Vierstra’s record, but was easily the biggest feather in her cap among the teams she’s beaten. She finished the day with seven strikeouts.

The Redhawk offense got to Alex Storako early, tacking four hits and four runs on the Wolverine ace, who faced eight batters and lasted just one inning. Miami totaled eleven hits against a trio of Michigan pitchers, including a Holly Blaska 2-run home run in the second inning.

4. Alli Kilponen no-hits Nicholls

LSU pitcher Ali Kilponen threw her first career no-hitter on Wednesday, in a run-rule win over Nicholls. The game had been postponed from Tuesday due to weather, and Kilponen and the Tigers quickly dispatched the visiting Colonels once the game began. Kilponen also tied her season’s-best mark with eleven strikeouts, giving up just two walks as the only base runners she allowed.

The LSU offense included a 3-3 day with two RBIs from Ciara Briggs, a pair of RBIs from Georgia Clark, two runs scored by Taylor Pleasants, and the first career home run for Kennedi Houshmandzadeh.

5. Just call her Clutch

McKenzie Parker came through once-again when her team needed her on Wednesday night, blasting a 2-run home run that gave the Longhorns a 4-2 win in a hard-fought game against Texas State. Texas State had an early lead before Texas clawed back to tie things up. Parker’s 7th-inning blast proved the decisive blow, as she came through in a clutch situation for the second straight game – it was also Parker’s 2-run, walk-off hit that completed Texas’ comeback in game three against LSU and sealed their weekend series sweep on Saturday.
