Overcast morning skies turned into a sunny afternoon, then a pretty evening and a weather-filled night in Atlanta, but the first day of the Atlanta Legacy Invitational was completed without a hitch.
In the 18U division at Lost Mountain Park, eleven games were decided by three runs or fewer.
Atlanta Vipers 05-Tamborra picked up a 2-0 win over Stars National-Coleman 18U to open the day, while Newtown Rock Gold beat D1vision Softball 18U National 3-2 and Team North Carolina-Hinde bested Lady Dukes National Premier 18U 5-4 to highlight early Friday action.
Bombers Gold-Lewis posted a pair of shutouts on the day, taking down PA Outlaws National Fischl/Mulhall in a 7-0 final score before wrapping their day with a 3-0 shutout win over Fury Premier 23-Cole. The Birmingham Thunderbolts-Kaplan squad also posted a pair of shutout victories, besting Sarasota Heat Dover 7-0 to start their day, then posting a similar 7-0 shutout win over D1vision Softball 18U National later in the day.
In the 16U division, there were some similarly-styled tight games, with ten games decided by three or fewer runs, but there were also some blowout wins in that division. Ten games saw the winner reach double-digits in scoring in the 16U invitational.
Georgia Impact Premier-Maher started the day with a 14-2 win over the Empire State Huskies National-Porcelli; the Impact later added a 5-1 win over Top Gun 16U National-Slezak to finish the day 2-0. The Virginia Unity Johnson/Ross squad also picked up a pair of wins on the day, notching a 12-4 win over Windermere Wildfire 16U-Paulson and adding a 5-3 victory over Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier 2025 later in the day.
2025 slugger Gabby Shadek had one of the day’s most clutch hits, knocking a grand slam in a tied ball game to give Lady Duke Gold Torres a 7-3 win over Rock Gold VA 18U.
