Veteran Team USA Olympian Elana Meyers Taylor has been named to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Board of Directors as an athlete representative.

Meyers Taylor was elected to the post by the USOPC Athletes’ Advisory Council, the representative group of active Team USA athletes. Her four-year term on the board will begin on January 1, 2023; she will also be eligible to serve a second 4-year term thereafter.

“It’s an incredible honor to be elected to the USOPC board of directors by the AAC to represent the athletes of Team USA,” Meyers Taylor said in a statement. “The board of directors is a highly accomplished group of individuals, and I am excited to work with them to serve all stakeholders – but most importantly the athletes. I am also honored to be taking over the board seat of fellow bobsledder Steve Mesler, who not only represented the athletes well but had a positive impact on the entire USOPC. I look forward to working to continue to improve the USOPC and to ensuring that we have the strongest national Olympic and Paralympic movements in the world.”

A competitor in four total Olympic Winter Games, Meyers Taylor most recently competed in the 2022 Games in Beijing where she earned a silver medal in the Olympic debut of monobob and a bronze medal in the women’s two-person bobsled event. She was elected Opening Ceremony flag bearer but was unable to participate due to a positive COVID-19 test upon arrival in China, however the athletes of Team USA then elected her to carry the flag in the Closing Ceremony.

In total, Meyers Taylor owns five career Olympic medals including three silvers and two bronze medals. She owns an additional eight World Championship medals, including four golds.

Prior to her Olympic career, Meyers Taylor was part of the first-ever varsity softball team at George Washington. A team captain during her entire career at GW, Meyers Taylor went on to record the first hit and score the first run in Colonials’ program history. She was later inducted into the GW Athletics Hall of Fame.
