Extra Inning Softball’s National Club Player & National Club Team of the Week – August 11, 2020

Our Extra Inning Softball National Club Player & National Club Team of the Week series moved into Week 9 for the 2020 summer season with today’s edition.

The Club Player/Team of the Week features great individual and team accomplishments from the past weekend along with those who were Runners-Up with similarly strong performances.

This week’s honorees are from games and tournaments in the week of Monday, August 3 through Sunday August 9, 2020 and includes performances at Nationals across the U.S.!

National Club Player of the Week:
OF Ella Edgmon (Fury Platinum – Higdon)

Ella Edgmon, a 2021 graduate from Dunlap, Tennessee and a standout centerfielder and leadoff hitter for Fury Platinum 18U-Higdon, batted .654 (17-26) with 13 runs and 11 stolen bases—including four in one game—to help lead her team to the Scenic City Summer Showcase 18U championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee over the weekend.

Ella extended her hitting streak to 22 games and for the season is batting .483 (72-149). She also had12 walks to make her on-base percentage for the year at .522. Ella has 58 runs, 37 stolen bases, 18 RBIs, 9 doubles, 5 triples, and one home run for the summer.

The incoming senior has also been a school ball standout at Sequatchie County High School in Dunlap Tenn. as she helped her team to a Top 16 state/sectional finish in 9th grade and in 2019 to a 4th place state tournament finish (the 2020 season was lost to COVID-19).

Ella has stolen 104/105 bases in two seasons and ranked highly in the state in 2019 at .575 with 25 doubles, 11 triples, 69 runs and 55 stolen bases in 40 games. She was named Class AA All-State by the Tennessee Softball Coaches Association.

The athletic outfielder is also a basketball standout, earning All-District the last two years at guard and she ranked among the Chattanooga area leaders in steals in 2019-2020. She is a 3-year starter in basketball and is a strong student as well.

Runners-Up / National Player of the Week

* Julianna Nieves of Birmingham Thunderbolts 2024 Burns put on quite a show at the Scenic City 14u Tournament this weekend and helped her Bolts go 7-0 to capture the title at Camp Jordan in East Ridge, Tennessee. Batting in the 4-hole all weekend, she was 10 for 18 (.556 batting average) with 2 doubles, a walk-off homerun, 11 RBI, and 6 runs scored.

Macy Masters of Georgia Impact – Lunsford had nine home runs for the week!

Her most dramatic hit of the weekend came with two outs in the bottom of the last inning of a 0-0 game between the Bolts, ranked #10 in the Extra Inning Softball 14U Extra Elite Eighty, and the Tennessee MOJO 2024 Ross, ranked #12 Extra Inning Softball 14U Extra Elite Eighty. Julianna hit a walk-off line drive home run over the left field fence to give the Thunderbolts a 1-0 victory in that game.

* Maci Masters, a 2023 third baseman for Georgia Impact – Lunsford, had a monster week as she clubbed 9 home runs in 35 at-bats to lead her team to the USA Nationals Championships. She also had 24 RBIs, 16 runs scored, hit .543 and had a strong 2.008 OPS.

* McKayla Betts, a 2022 MIF/3B/OF with the Germantown Red Devils, has had a great summer and at Scenic City batted .579 (11 for 19) with a .570 on-base percentage as she had 5 singles, 4 doubles and 3 triples. The incoming junior at Greenbrier (Arkansas) High also had 8 RBIs and went 19-for-19 in the field with a 1.000 fielding percentage.

How to Submit Information:

Each week during the summer, Extra Inning Softball will recognize a National Club Player & Team of the Week.

Those honored will typically be announced on Tuesdays. The cutoff for submitting the nominations for Player & Team of the Week will be Mondays at 9 pm EST/6 pm PST.

* Individually, we’re looking for standouts who excelled in the circle, at the plate or in the field so be sure to nominate your favorite performance(s) by submitting the following:

  • Player Name
  • Grad Year (example: Class of 2021 or Incoming Senior)
  • Position(s)
  • Club team name with city/state
  • Stats for the week (be as detailed as possible!)
  • Up-to-date season stats if possible
  • Recruiting information if applicable
  • Any interesting background on the player
  • Action and/or head shots
  • If possible, contact info if we’d like more info or quotes

* Teams to be considered should include info such as record, key wins, standout performances and more for the week.
