At Extra Inning Softball, we are always looking for events that push the sport forward — and the International Challenge Softball Tournament does exactly that.
Scheduled for June 25–28, 2026 in Colorado, this unique event hosted by Triple Crown Fastpitch brings together elite 16U–18U athletes for a competition centered not only on talent but also on heritage, identity, and global pride.
Listen below to learn more about the International Challenge!

Unlike traditional travel tournaments where athletes compete strictly for club teams, the International Challenge allows players to represent their nationality and family heritage.
Athletes submit interest to play for a specific country, and coaches assemble rosters representing nations from across the globe.
The result is an atmosphere rarely seen in youth fastpitch — one where competition meets culture. Learn about more tournaments HERE!

A Tournament Built on Heritage
The International Challenge was founded in 2021 through a partnership between Triple Crown Sports and Manny Travieso, a respected voice in international softball development.
Since its inception, the event has grown into one of the most culturally unique experiences in youth fastpitch. Players compete not just for wins, but for the honor of representing their family history and national identity.
“Players express interest in representing a country or team connected to their heritage,” said Event Director Sarah Pow.
“Coaches then select rosters to compete in the International Challenge, creating teams that reflect global representation within the sport.”
Over the past several years, the event has featured athletes representing numerous countries, showcasing how fastpitch softball continues to expand worldwide.

Pride Drives the Atmosphere
One of the defining characteristics of the International Challenge is its energy and cultural celebration.
Spectators and teams are encouraged to bring national flags, instruments, and music tied to their heritage, transforming the tournament environment into a celebration of identity and tradition.
Rather than focusing purely on outcomes, the event emphasizes pride-driven competition.
Players wear their country’s colors, families cheer in multiple languages, and the tournament fields become a vibrant mix of global cultures connected through the game of softball.

Pathway to International Competition
Beyond the cultural experience, the International Challenge also provides valuable development opportunities for athletes with international aspirations.
Following the event, player evaluations are conducted for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
Several alumni from previous International Challenge events have gone on to represent their countries in international competitions.
For many players, the tournament becomes a first step toward national team opportunities.
Another highlight of the event is the All World Game, where standout athletes are selected throughout the tournament week by participating coaches.
Those selected receive invitations to compete in the prestigious All World Game during Triple Crown’s Colorado Fourth of July event further elevating exposure for top performers.

Supporting Leadership and Opportunity
The International Challenge also ties into broader efforts to expand opportunity within softball. Manny Travieso, co-founder of the event, leads the ELLA Foundation (Empowering Leadership in Latina Athletes), an initiative focused on developing leadership and opportunity for Latina athletes in sports.
By blending competition with cultural representation and leadership development, the International Challenge continues to stand out as one of the most meaningful events on the summer softball calendar.

Future Growth Ahead
The tournament’s growth is already underway. Organizers are exploring the addition of 12U and 14U divisions beginning in 2027, which would expand the opportunity for younger athletes to experience international representation earlier in their softball journey.
With its blend of culture, development, and high-level competition, the International Challenge is quickly becoming a signature event in the fastpitch world.
For athletes seeking something beyond the traditional travel ball tournament experience, the International Challenge delivers a stage where heritage, pride, and softball intersect. Learn about more tournaments HERE!
