September 1st will be an interesting date as college coaches can begin recruiting dialogs with incoming juniors (2020’s) and one who should be on the radar of top schools everywhere is Mia Rivers, a three-sport athlete from Texas who shines in track and hoops as well as softball.
Already considered one of the top defensive shortstops in the country for her class, Mia was a key component of her Hotshots 16U team winning the World Fastpitch Championship this summer with her glove and arm.
On one memorable play in the championship game win, she fielded a ground ball, tagged the runner out in front of her and then threw to first for a double play that stopped a rally and allowed her team to win 2-1.
Then, in a PGF Nationals bracket game, she broke a tie game in the bottom of the 7th with a home run to centerfield off a Pac-12 committed pitcher and led the team in hitting and on-base percentage for the week.
Her club coach, Mel Dumezich, says bluntly, “This kid is an athlete and whoever lands her will get a friggin’ steal!”
Here’s more on the emerging junior whose recruiting stock should soar this fall…
