Extra Star Power: Georgia Pitcher Katie Cunane… Ranked in the 2025 Extra Elite 100, “Couldn’t Ask for a Better Teammate.”

Katie Cunane, a 2025 P/1B, made an immediate impact at Mount Paran Christian High and she’s a major reason East Cobb Bullets Gold 14U-Holcombe is expected to contend for an Alliance 14U national title this summer.

Cunane, #253 in the Class of 2025 and the #150 pitcher in the Class of 2025, is already known as one of the best riseball pitchers in the nation and she can swing it too.

Addie Joiner, a 2026 C/MIF for the Bullets, gets a close look at Cunane.

“Katie is a leader on the field and she is a great teammate when I am catching her,” Joiner said. “Her riseball is her best pitch and no one can really hit it. She is probably the best riseball pitcher I know. She is also very outgoing and a great person.”

Bullets SS Presley Ivey, #44 in the 2025 Extra Elute 100, said Cunane sets the tone for the team.

“Katie is one of the best teammates I have ever played with,” Ivey said. “She always has a good attitude and knows how to get the energy up on and off the field. She always does a great job pitching and does her job hitting also. Katie’s intensity on the field definitely helps her to push through hard games 110 percent and she has a riseball like no other. Katie is so funny and just overall a good person who will always be there for you no matter what. Ever since she came to our team, she has brought nothing but energy and excitement. I couldn’t ask for a better teammate.”

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?
I have been playing with East Cobb Bullets Holcombe since the Sparkler in Colorado 2021 this past summer. I have known some of the girls from playing on the USA 12U All-American Team Georgia. When I was looking for a team, the coaches and players warmly welcomed me to pickup with them and the rest is history! I remember the first East Cobb Bullet organizational workout in Colorado. I was extremely impressed by the talent that the team has and their incredible energy on the field and in the dugout.

What were some of the training methods and workouts you did to stay busy during the stay-at-home orders because of the coronavirus situation?
During the pandemic, I began to run long distance outside more in my neighborhood, which is full of unpleasantries, but effective hills. The Peleton was another huge workout device that greatly helped me train specific muscles as well as build endurance with cardio. Most of our pandemic days were spent camping, so swimming, biking and running were typical “pandemic workouts.”

What is something you have faced in your life that has helped you become the person that you are today?
Failure. It’s all how you look at it. My dad always says that the moments of failure are also greatest moments of growth. Learning from failure and working hard at getting better. Whether I was not picked to be on a travel team when I was younger or losing the cabbage growing contest in third grade, UGH! I have learned that it’s OK. We learn from it and move on!

What’s your most memorable softball story?
Competing and beating the 05 Vipers (while with GAP spring of 2021) in a complete game win. We won 3-2. I also homered against them, going 2 for 3, which was unreal. The game was so intense and I will never forget it. I have so much respect for all the athletes on that team. They are all so talented.

Another one (humorous), my 10U (Titans) coach Angie Beal taught us to forget the mistakes we made whether it be an error on the field or a bad AB. We would do this by putting a toilet seat on our heads between games, learning to “flush it.”

What’s something that people would be surprised to learn about you?
I would live to travel for a year straight around the world with my friends! I love to cook, so learning to cook foods from all cultures.

What have you learned about yourself in the past year?
If I really work hard at something, I will most definitely be successful. This goes for both in the classroom and on the field.

Do you have a secret talent/skill?
I am very talented at playing Mario-Kart! Way better than my uncle and dad when we play family tournaments in New Jersey (their hometown).

Who is the most underrated player on your team?
Addy Smith is one of the most hardworking and versatile players I’ve ever met. She is constantly carrying buckets and when it comes to playing, always gets the job done whether it’s outfield or infield. You can catch her playing any position well.
