Kicks on Fire: Florida Head Coach Tim Walton Auctioning Famous Shoes to Benefit Hurricane-Affected Alum

Florida head coach Tim Walton is known for his emphasis on defensive instruction with his team and as the first and only SEC head coach to win multiple national championships.

The veteran Gator leader is also known for his impressive shoe game.

Walton’s footwear has something of its own following, with the longtime coach regularly sporting unique color schemes, designs, and Gator-centered artwork on his feet. During the regular season, Walton’s shoes were an Instagram staple; a regular “Kicks on Fire” series of posts showcased Walton’s shoe collection. Solid orange, solid blue, and St. Patrick’s-themed green and white footwear were among the highlights of the series.

Now, though, Walton is giving up some of his collection to help a Gators program alumnus who was affected by Hurricane Ian’s recent affects in Florida.

Aubree Munro Watson is a familiar name to softball fans and is still a revered individual in Gators’ softball lore. An Olympian, veteran professional, and former Gators All-American, Munro Watson and her family suffered significant loss due to the hurricane’s affects on the Sunshine State’s southwestern coast.

On Wednesday, Walton announced on social media that he was relinquishing multiple pairs of Air Jordan shoes from his collection. The shoes are being auctioned off, with the entire proceeds benefitting Munro Watson and her husband Gordon – a former Gators men’s tennis player – as they continue to recover from the effects of the hurricane.

Six pairs of Walton’s Air Jordans are up for auction, with all already receiving bids within the first few hours of the auction’s debut. The auction is currently active and runs until October 24 at 12 pm. Bids are taken online; the full auction listings, complete with how to bid, can be found at this link.

Originally scheduled to run until nearly the end of the month, on Thursday, Walton announced a shortened auction period after the fundraising endeavor garnered much interest in its early hours after being formed.
