Pittsburgh pitcher Abby Edwards celebrated her senior season as a Panther with the 2022 campaign.
Since then, she’s been a little busy – in the most impressive fashion. Edwards recently graduated the US Marines’ Officer Candidates School (OCS).
In addition to graduating from Officer Candidates School, Edwards earned a Special Achievement Award for her “perfect physical fitness average of 100%”. That achievement made her the highest-scoring candidate in the battalion.
An Illinois native who has spent four years in a Pitt uniform, Edwards has appeared in 76 games during her career as a Panther, including 18 starts as a freshman in 2019. She made three starts and recorded eleven strikeouts during her true senior season in 2022.
On social media, Pitt head coach Jodi Hermanek added her thoughts on her former player’s accomplishment, writing “I have been so proud of this young amazing woman for 4 yrs now, but this… my Pride of her is off the charts! Marine BEAST in a [Pitt Softball] uni…”
Editor’s note: A previous version of this article referred to Edwards as a “former Pitt pitcher”. We were later informed that Edwards intends to utilize her super-senior season and play in 2023. The article has been updated to reflect her status as a current Pitt player.
