“Big dreams do come true!” shared the 2024 middle-infielder for the Illinois Chill Gold when sharing her commitment to the University of Illinois on social media.
Ellie Haggard hails from Bourbonnais, Illinois, a southern suburb of Chicago. Starting on her high school’s varsity team since her freshman year, she has been named 1st Team All Conference and 1st Team All Area, as well as earning the title of The Daily Journal Co-Player of the Year two years in a row.
In the club arena, she is consistently in the lineup hitting third – which is a testament to her power at the plate and ability to get it done when it counts. Ellie lead her team in multiple offensive categories, including batting average, home runs, and RBIs.
As a result of her stellar performance at both the high school and club ball level, it is no surprise that Coach Tyra Perry wanted her on her team.

The chance to play high-level, competitive softball at such an incredible academic school that is also in her beloved home state made the decision to spend the next four years as a Fighting Illini a very easy choice.
“Thank you Coach Perry, Coach Trout, and Coach Vann for your confidence in me and the opportunity to play at the next level,” wrote Ellie in her Twitter announcement. “Thank you to all my teammates and coaches that have believed in me and invested their time to develop me as a person and player. Finally a huge thank you to my parents and brother for all their sacrifices, support and being my biggest fans!”
