I Committed: Lilly Albarano’s Crimson Hawk Future

Lilly Albarano, 2024, dons an IUP Softball sweatshirt to announce her commitment.

In October of last year, Lilly Albarano, a right-handed pitcher for the Frozen Ropes 18U Hershey, announced that she accepted an offer to play at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (“IUP”) following graduation.

Being a Pennsylvania native herself, Lilly has described the school as a “home away from home” for her family, as her father/coach, John Albarano, is an alumnus of the university.

From that first visit that would become many, Lilly knew that the school was special. However, she still went through the recruiting process to see what options she would have.

“I made recruiting visits to several Division I and II schools. In the end, it was never about the division,” shared Lilly. “I was searching for a school and a coach that I felt comfortable with, and I found that at IUP.”

The student-athlete felt an instant connection to Coach Shawn Bellaud, which made the decision quick and easy for Lilly once the offer was extended.

“I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to Indiana University of Pennsylvania to continue my academic and athletic career!” read Lilly’s announcement post on Twitter. “Thank you to all my coaches, family, and friends!”

Lilly’s performance on the mound earned her the first-ever All-American title for her high school.

To prepare for the life of a collegiate student-athlete, Lilly continues to compete at a high level with her club team and made standout appearances at the USA Softball “Dual on the Diamond” 18U showcase and the Steel City Showdown tournament, among other elite events.

Notably, she earned a spot in the “300 K Club” at the Frozen Ropes’ training facility, collecting 300 strikeouts for 37 innings in only two seasons. Additionally, Lilly is her high school’s first-ever All-American honoree.

“I’m so excited to help IUP in any way I can,” Lilly said to Penn Live. “Be a good teammate to the girls, when I get that chance to step on the mound, be there, and do what I know I can do.”

Lilly will join the Crimson Hawks next fall.
