What a ride the recruiting journey is.
As a former NCAA head coach at both the Division I and III levels, a current supporter of individuals navigating the process, and with many friends currently coaching throughout all levels of college softball, let’s just say I’ve seen and heard some interesting questions and situations.
The biggest message I can spread to high school athletes about recruiting is that every journey looks different. In a world where comparison, through social media, teammates’ situations, coach and parent pressures, and assumptions, is at an all-time high, we have compiled some tips from recent collegiate graduates that will hopefully shed some light on the reality of recruiting.
Tip #1: Your collegiate experience is about more than softball, it prepares you for your next phase of life
It is extremely easy to get caught up in wanting to be able to tell everyone that you’re attending the biggest and shiniest softball program in your area without putting some effort into understanding how you will feel/experience/grow on campus as a person, a scholar, and an athlete.
