Coastal Carolina Adds Michelle Gardner to Coaching Staff

Former Indiana head coach Michelle Gardner has been hired as the new assistant coach at Coastal Carolina.

Gardner will hold the title of Associate Head Coach and will work with the Chanticleers’ pitching staff. She returns to college softball after five years away following her tenure at Indiana.

While at IU, Gardner spent nine seasons as the Hoosiers’ head coach and collected 380 wins along the way. She shepherded the 2011 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year and also led the program to a second-place finish in the conference standings that same season, one of two top-four finishes during her tenure.

Prior to taking over the reins at Indiana, Gardner was the head coach at Nevada and led the Wolfpack to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances. Her resume also includes stints as an assistant coach at Arizona State, Florida State, and Bowling Green.

During the 2022 season, Coastal Carolina’s pitching staff amassed a cumulative staff ERA of 4.10, while also notching 25 wins; 323 strikeouts; and an opponent’s batting average of .262.
