Justin’s College Softball Week 12 “Mid-Major” Top 10

National College Softball Editor Justin McLeod’s “Mid-Major” Top 10 is here following Week 12 action.

There’s no movement amongst the top four teams… Louisiana, Central Arkansas, Boston, and Northern Iowa all continue their dominant runs in conference play with undefeated showings in week 12.

Charlotte moves up to #5 after playing Louisiana Tech this weekend. The Niners also beat UNC Greensboro in a midweek on Tuesday, a redemption victory after UNCG won the year’s first meeting of the two teams earlier this season.

Also moving up was Liberty; the Flames move to #6 after a midweek win over Clemson and a three-game series sweep against Austin Peay. The Flames are making their postseason resume better down the stretch and have won some major games late.

Cal State Fullerton has maintained their lead in the Big West since returning to the top of the league standings; the Titans do still boast a solid non-conference resume and are doing their usual damage in league play. The Titan pitching staff has been on fire.

Checking in at #8 this week is South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits have taken down all comers in Summit League play this season and have officially clinched their third consecutive regular-season conference title.

Boise State falls to #9 after losing a weekend series to San Diego State; the two teams are the favorites to challenge for the inaugural Mountain West tournament crown, and the Broncos remain a solid squad with one week to go in their own regular-season schedule.

The sole new team appearing in this week’s MM top 10 is Lehigh, the first time all season that two Patriot League teams have made appearances in the same set of rankings. The Mountain Hawks have been consistent all year and are tied with Boston atop the Patriot League standings, each at 15-0 in league play.

UAB has made quite the run in conference play, setting up what should be a winner-take-all series in the CLT this weekend for the Conference USA regular-season title… Binghamton is riding a 9-game winning streak and the Bearcats have looked very good down the stretch… San Diego State took a series win over Boise State and are preparing to host the inaugural Mountain West conference tournament… Seton Hall has been an incredible surprise in the Big East this year and lead that league in overall wins.
