Monday marked the first day of the Division 1 softball “transfer window”, the time period during which undergraduates can enter the portal and maintain eligibility for next season.
In total, more than 200 players entered the portal on Monday, checking in at 207 in full.
Twenty of the players were graduate transfers; grad transfers can enter the portal at anytime and their eligibility is not bound by the transfer window.
Of the 187 undergraduate transfers that entered the portal, 27 came from Power Five schools. Alabama’s Aubrey Barnhart, South Carolina’s Olivia Cook and Skyler Trahan, and Washington’s Angie Yellen were among the players who entered the portal despite their current team reaching the NCAA tournament.
Notable portal entrants on the first day of the transfer window included:
- Georgia Tech’s All-ACC catcher Emma Kauf
- 2022 Big South Freshman of the Year Jaden Pone from Longwood
- 2022 Summit League Pitcher of the Year Grace Glanzer from South Dakota State
- 2022 Big South Player of the Year Peyton Darnell from USC Upstate
- UTSA all-conference infielder Kat Ibarra
- Arizona State outfielder Jazmine Hill
