Thousands of softball coaches from every level of the game will descend on Las Vegas, Nevada this week for the annual National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Convention.
After the 2020 convention was held virtually, the 2021 event returns to an in-person format.
Combining instructional sessions with networking and social outings, the event will begin on Wednesday and run through Saturday, with extra events offered both before and after the “official” dates. The convention is expected to draw nearly 1,400 softball coaches according to the NFCA’s most recent attendance estimate.
Highlights of the event will include:
- A keynote address by former UCLA head coach Sue Enquist
- ‘Down the Hallway’ chat between legendary former Notre Dame women’s basketball coach Muffet McGraw and Fighting Irish softball coach Deanna Gumpf
- The annual Softball Summit, including representatives from every level of the game
- NFCA Hall of Fame banquet, where the Classes of 2020 and 2021 will be officially enshrined
On Thursday, James Madison head coach Loren LaPorte will present a session entitled “A Season to Remember,” reflecting on her program’s legend-making run in the 2021 postseason.
Notable speakers during the event include former Marshall catcher and current Chicago Cubs minor league coach Rachel Folden; Team Canada Olympians and newly-minted coaches Kaleigh Rafter and Jenn Salling; and legendary former Cal State Fullerton head coach Judi Garman.
In addition to Friday’s induction of the Hall of Fame Class of 2020 and Class of 2021, the members of the Class of 2022 will be announced for the first time that evening.
