Ruby Meylan, ranked #53 in the 2022 Extra Elite 100, went on an unofficial trip to Washington last week and she knew she wanted to be a Husky.
“My recruiting journey went really well,” Meylan said. “I loved getting to learn about different programs around the country. I started playing club softball when I was 12 (years old) and just fell in love with the game. Ever since then, softball has pretty much been my entire life.”
So why head to the West Coast?
“I chose Washington because it is a very high academic school with a softball program,” she continued, “which competes at the highest level. I went on an unofficial visit with my family last week, and I loved it. I knew that it is where I want to be. When I got home, I talked to Coach (Heather) Tarr, Coach (Lance) Glasoe, and Coach (JT) D’Amico, and I made my decision.”

The Nebraska Gold-Singleton pitcher led Skutt Catholic High of Omaha, NE, to a 32-3 record and Class B State Title this fall.
“It was important for me to choose a big-time program,” Meylan said, “because I want to compete at the highest level.”
Coach Beth Singleton, who coaches the right-handed junior at the club level, told us last year that the tall pitcher was one to watch.
“Ruby is a strong presence in the circle at 6-foot plus and throwing 60-63 mph with a devastating drop/rise combo,” Singleton said. “She mixes in a curve and change to keep batters guessing. Ruby guested with our team at the 2018 JO Cup where we placed 7th in the 14U and she is now with the team full time. She is also a two-way player who swings with power.”

Meylan was drawing attention from Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and ACC schools along with the interest from the Huskies. Previously she had camped schools such as Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, South Dakota State and Texas.
