The Smash It Sports Vipers have signed a trio of players to professional contracts for the 2023 summer season.
Former Cal utility star Makena Smith and former Ragin Cajuns Meghan Schorman and Karly Heath are the newest members of the Vipers’ roster.
Smith and Heath were both drafted by the Vipers in the inaugural WPF Draft in April, with Smith being selected #15 overall and Heath being chosen at #19 overall. Schorman was signed as an undrafted free agent.
A five-year star at Cal, Smith earned All-American honors in 2022 and 2023 and was a four-time All-PAC 12 selection. She saw time at a variety of positions defensively, including catcher, corner infield, and the outfield.
Schorman, a former Kentucky transfer, and Heath, a former South Carolina transfer, both found stardom in Lafayette. Schorman led the Cajuns from the circle, while Heath was a two-way standout for the squad and both played hearty roles in guiding the team to the Baton Rouge Regional championship and a Super Regional berth this season.
Now in their second season of existence as a professional franchise, the Vipers have relocated to Oxford, Alabama as their home base and will begin play in the second Women’s Pro Fastpitch (WPF) season this summer.
