Former Stephen F. Austin slugger Shaylon Govan is transferring to Baylor, she announced on social media on Sunday night.
“#12 is going to Waco! #Sicem,” she wrote.
The 2021 Southland Conference Hitter of the Year, Govan has only played one full season of college softball; she participated in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season and suffered an injury early in the 2022 campaign.
Govan was a breakout star during the 2021 season, batting .383 on the year with fifteen home runs and 52 RBIs. She was named the 2021 Southland Conference Hitter of the Year and was both an all-conference and all-Region selection that year. In 2021, Govan ranked 43rd in the nation in home runs and 30th in the nation in RBIs.
During the shortened 2020 campaign, Govan batted .406 in 23 games with six home runs and 26 RBIs to her credit. She appeared in thirteen games during the 2022 season before suffering the season-ending injury.
The addition of Govan continues a busy summer in the transfer portal for Baylor – the Bears previously added LSU transfer Presleigh Pilon and Arizona transfer Amber Toven.
